Cyprus is an island divided in two, the north belonging to Turkey. This is called "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus", but is recognized as legitimate only by Turkey. The south is an independent republic called the Republic of Cyprus ". Republic of Cyprus is part of the European Union, although the north is also a member.

Nicosia is the capital, it is divided by the "Green Line" into two parts, like the division of Berlin during the cold war. Access between the two parties is usually restricted.
